Michele Horner, got her first guitar from her grandfather when she was 2. Her principal guitar teachers have been Kevin Gallagher, head of the guitar department at Lawrence Conservatory (Wisconsin) and Frederic Hand, head of the guitar department at Purchase College (NY). Michele has completed Suzuki guitar teacher training through Bk 9 with Bill Kossler, Frank Longay and David Madsen. She is a graduate of Penn State University where she holds 2 school records in field hockey goalkeeping. Michele added guitar instruction to the curriculum of the State College Suzuki Program (SCSP) when she joined the faculty in 2000. During her tenure as SCSP String Director, Michele’s vision for multimedia collaborative performance led her to create innovative programs for the SCSP featuring a confluence of music, visual arts, and dance. In 2006 SCSP was one of only four American Suzuki schools selected by audition to perform a featured concert at the 14th Suzuki World Convention in Turin, Italy. Michele is featured in Andrea Cannon’s column in the American Suzuki Association Journal Vol. 35 #3.

Michele Horner also covers 1200 years of art and music history in iJAM: an Interactive Journey through Art and Music; a fun and engaging workshop making connections between visual art and music blended with movement and innovative activities. Students travel from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary period, learning how to identify music and art from each era, all while having a great time! This workshop helps kids to relate to the context of their pieces, which translates into better and more expressive performances. She has conducted these workshops throughout the United States and in Canada.
