NYC based Katty Anna Mayorga began her guitar studies in Guatemala at the age of 5, concentrating in Latin American pop music on acoustic guitar. At the age of 9 she moved to Costa Rica where she studied under the lead guitarist of a tropical band called Kike de Heredia. A year later, she ventured on her own and became skilled in rock, heavy metal, folk, and flamenco. Having always loved classical music, she decided to broaden her knowledge and concentrate on classical guitar.
Ms. Mayorga moved to New York in 2003 to begin her studies with Jon LaRotonda in Upstate New York. Six months later, she moved to Westchester County where she studied with Peter Press and auditioned to join the Conservatory of Music at Purchase College. She completed her Performance in Classical Guitar undergraduate degree graduating Magna Cum Laude and her Master’s degree under Frederic Hand. She is coached by João Luiz Rezende of the Brasil Guitar Duo. She has attended and performed in various masterclasses by world-renowned guitarists such as Dale Kavanagh, Ana Vidovic, Sharon Isbin, Susana Prieto, and many others.
Katty has performed for Galas at the Performing Arts Center in Westchester County, in numerous events at Museums of Art, like the Neuberger and Museum openings in New York City. She has taken part of Music and art festivals at the Clemente Soto Velez center in downtown Manhattan and has shared the stage with Kelli O’Hara, Marvin Hamlisch, and James Earl Jones at fundraising events. She runs DaCapo Salon series along side pianist Chantal Balestri and flutist Ti Chung.
She currently is part of duo with guitarist Fabricio Andrade and the flute and guitar duo JKLM, with flutist Jamie Lee. Katty actively plays all over NYC and internationally.
Katty has been teaching in New York and Connecticut since 2005 and has been on the faculty of Brooklyn Conservatory of Music, Lucy Moses School, and the NYC Guitar School. Katty has done extensive Suzuki Guitar training under the mentoring of Andrea Cannon, and studied Suzuki Early Childhood Education with trainer Lynn McCall.
